The National Energy Summit that was held in April 2006 was the starting signal for the Federal Government’s proposed overall energy plan that is due to run to 2020.

The Government intends to submit the details of this plan at some point during the second half of 2007. An overall plan for German energy policy for the years and decades ahead is long overdue. Participants at the Energy Summit were in agreement that increasing reliance on imported energy, rising energy prices and global climate change would all mean huge challenges for future energy policy. The Federal Government and the trade and industry sector were ready to tackle these challenges together by identifying the key questions and drawing up a coherent response. And here there is no doubt whatsoever that coal will also have a part to play in the new energy plan.
